Creamy Guacamole: A Mexican Avocado Delight

FOWRecipe Author

Hello, foodies! Over the past few days, my loyal readers have been complaining to me — while they admire the zesty flavour, some of my recipes are time-consuming and difficult to prepare from scratch. Thus, acknowledging their feedback, I decided to share something easier to prepare with readily available ingredients and ready in far less time. Today, I am sharing the creamy guacamole recipe — true Mexican bliss. With the freshness and comforting flavour of avocado, guacamole is the most popular dip, often served with tacos and topped in Tex-Mex meals. Pairing this dish with tortilla chips makes it more delicious. Though it is made simple, you may add tomatoes and garlic or fruits such as mango to enhance its flavour.

This guide will discuss everything guacamole lovers must know. So, shall we begin?

Origin of Guacamole

Guacamole’s history is as bountiful and vast as its taste. Several individuals believe that guacamole originated during the reign of the Aztec Empire. During those days, people referred to guacamole as ‘āhuacamolli,’ signifying ‘avocado sauce.’ According to Aztecs, avocados were a divine ingredient that contained supernatural powers. Sooner, they adopted this simple avocado sauce into their diet. The Spanish conquerors also admired this dish, and since then (16th century), guacamole has become a popular Mexican dip. In contemporary times, guacamole is the heart and soul of Tex-Mex and authentic Mexican cuisine.

What are the Key Ingredients of Guacamole?

  • 3 avocadoes

Avocado is the key ingredient of this appetizing sauce. Hence, without avocado, you cannot make guacamole. The avocados you use in this creamy dip must be ripe. Mexicans add hass avocadoes to guacamole to make the creamiest guacamole.

  • Lime juice of one lemon

Lime juice complements the creamy texture.

  • Salt

And, of course, salt needs no mention. Adjust it in the dip according to your taste.

  •  ¼ cup Onion

If you are craving an authentic guacamole, I suggest you add white onion. However, if you want a combination of sweetness and tanginess, you may use red onions. Experimenting with the dish and adding substitute ingredients has never been my preference. Hence, I add white onions to homemade guacamole.

  •  3 tablespoons Cilantro

Though optional, cilantro is a key ingredient of this dish, providing freshness and pungent flavour to guacamole. If added, its aroma can enhance the taste of your dish. Cilantro is a must in guacamole If you want an authentic Mexican taste.

  • 2 diced tomatoes

Tomatoes are an optional ingredient of guacamole. However, you may add it to provide a natural colour and balance its sweet and tangy flavour.

  • Chillies

I love spicy food. If you also prefer spiciness, add serrano peppers or fresh jalapeños.
